June 15th, 2012

After approximately 45 minutes by train, we are finally in CORDOBA!!

We are really excited to see the Great Mosque of Cordoba!! This mosque was made the third largest mosque in the Islamic world - that is huge ! The prayer hall is 23,400 square metres and is filled with 500 slender columns that have red and white arches.

There are over 500 of these!
After Spain was conquered in 1236 A.D., the king ruled that the mosque would now be the city's cathedral. Later in the early 16th century, the Bishops of the church wanted to demolish the mosque and build a new cathedral on the same foundation. This never happened because there was an uproar of people in the community and so the mosque still stands.

After seeing the mosque, we will walk through the market place alleyways to get a feel for the town as well as do a little shopping :)

Total expenses in Cordoba: $428.61

Train ride to Cordoba: $42.09
Hotel Macia Alfaros:$84.14
Tour of Mosque: $102.38
Miscellaneous: $200
